Il quarto mese di gravidanza va dalla settimana 13+2 alla settimana 17+4 (controlla la corrispondenza mesi e settimane).
Durante il quarto mese il bambino cresce fino a raggiungere la metà del peso che avrà alla nascita. In sole quattro settimane aumenta di sei volte il suo peso e di oltre quindici centimetri la sua lunghezza. Per sostenere questo sviluppo prodigioso, il bambino ha bisogno di molto aiuto: cibo, ossigeno e acqua. Tutto questo gli viene fornito dalla madre attraverso la placenta, l’organo attraverso cui arriva al bambino, fino alla nascita, tutto quello che gli serve. Il piccolo apre ora la bocca e deglutisce e così facendo inghiotte il liquido amniotico che poi elimina facendo pipì. Sotto la pelle si forma uno strato di tessuto adiposo che lo proteggerà dal freddo e garantirà il buon funzionamento del suo metabolismo.
Alla quattordicesima settimana il feto misura circa 8-10 centimetri e pesa sui 35 grammi. I muscoli e le articolazioni continuano a crescere, le sue ossa si stanno rinforzando e la colonna vertebrale si sta raddrizzando. Sulle dita, che sono ormai separate, compaiono sottili unghie.
Il fegato secerne la bile, la milza produce i globuli rossi e il sangue inizia a formarsi nel midollo osseo. Sebbene non abbia ancora bisogno di respirare, dato che l’ossigeno gli arriva dal sangue che circola nel cordone ombelicale, si “esercita” comunque a farlo. Sulla testolina compare una leggere peluria e i genitali esterni sono bene sviluppati, tanto che con l’ecografia potreste scoprine già il sesso.
La testa e il collo sono più dritti e gli occhi e le orecchie si stanno pian piano sistemando nei punti giusti. Il sistema urinario si perfeziona: il piccolo svuota la vescica molto spesso, ogni 40-50 minuti.
Alla quindicesima settimana misura dai 7 ai 10 cm e pesa circa 50 grammi. I suoi organi principali funzionano perfettamente e continuano a svilupparsi. Con ogni probabilità sulla sua pelle è cresciuta una sorta di peluria sottilissima e folta chiamata lanugine, che gli serve a mantenere una temperatura costante e che cadrà prima del parto. Il suo viso è già quasi perfetto e si sono formate persino le sopracciglia.
Il vostro bimbo è ora più proporzionato, la testa non è più molto più grande del corpo.
Sotto la sua pelle s’intravedono ancora i vasi sanguigni e le ossa stanno prendendo il posto della cartilagine. Sebbene sia circondato di liquido e non di aria, il bimbo è già in grado di respirare, inghiottire e avere il singhiozzo.
Alla sedicesima settimana il piccolo è lungo da 12,5 a 14 centimetri e pesa 150 grammi.
Caratteristica di questo periodo è l’inizio dei movimenti del feto attivi: non è semplice riconoscerli, in quanto, essendo molto leggeri, spesso possono essere confusi con movimenti intestinali. Inoltre, inizialmente sono limitati a 2/3 al giorno, in seguito diventano più frequenti e si intensificano.
I suoi ritmi sono in stretta relazione con la tua attività e con le variazioni ormonali del sangue: si muove di più di sera (tra le dieci e mezzanotte), mentre il suo momento più tranquillo è l’alba.
Se però ancora non sentite niente non dovete preoccuparvi. La maggior parte delle donne lo sentono tra questa settimana e la ventesima e, se siete in sovrappeso o alla prima gravidanza, è probabile che ci voglia ancora qualche giorno prima di sentirlo muovere.
Intorno alla diciassettesima settimana è lungo 13-15 centimetri e pesa circa 200 grammi. Inizierà ora a sentire i rumori: il battito del tuo cuore, il fruscio del sangue che scorre nelle tue vene e il rumori del tuo stomaco. È ora di parlare più spesso con lui e di fargli ascoltare un po’ di musica. Le ossa dello scheletro proseguono il processo di calcificazione, ma rimangono sempre flessibili, elemento essenziale per quando arriverà il momento del parto. Intanto continua le sue “prove di respirazione”, inalando il liquido amniotico. Se è un maschietto, le ghiandole della prostata cominciano a svilupparsi, se è una bimba, iniziano a formarsi l’utero e la vagina.
Il tuo utero misura tra i 15 e i 25,4 cm ed è ora all’altezza dell’ombelico.
Il battito cardiaco non è più spontaneo ma regolato dal cervello che lo stabilizza a un ritmo di 140-150 battiti al minuto.
La nausea dovrebbe ormai essere del tutto scomparsa e potrete mangiare e bere più liberamente, ma non dimenticate di curare l’alimentazione per evitare un aumento eccessivo di peso.
Se è indicata o avete scelto di farla è questo il momento (tra la 15 e la 16 settimana) per eseguire l’amniocentesi un esame invasivo che consiste nel prelievo di liquido amniotico per individuare alcune anomalie cromosomiche.
